Karl Wilhelm von Sames

Karl Wilhelm von Sames (born March 1, 1724 in Braunfels near Wetzlar, † October 18, 1789 ) was a royal Danish general and commanding general in Holstein and commander in Rendsburg .

His father was Johann Volpert von Sames (* March 24, 1678; † March 26, 1730) was court chamber councilor to the Prince of Solms-Braunfels .

Life

He first studied in Jena and then came into Prussian and later French service. From there, the Danish General Field Marshal St. Germain brought him to Denmark. He was given the character of a colonel and joined the Oldenburg Infantry Regiment on July 8, 1761. On December 23, 1761, he asked for leave to organize the situation in Wetzlar . On April 14, 1762 he received the position of lieutenant colonel and a grant of 317 thalers and 48 shillings. As early as November 30, 1763, he became chief of the Oldenburg Infantry Regiment. In 1767 he also became director of the drill system in Denmark, and in 1771 he became a member of the management of the Friedrich Hospital. With a cabinet order of January 25, 1771, he became interim commandant of Copenhagen , and on December 16, 1771, he had to give up the position again. From August 27, 1772 to August 22, 1788 he was in command of Glückstadt , and on January 29, 1782 he was also appointed major general. He was also head of the Queen's Life Guard from August 4, 1773 to April 7, 1788 , at which time - April 18, 1776 - he was officially raised to the Danish nobility. On September 25, 1782 he was also appointed lieutenant general, and in the same year he was also awarded the Danebrog Order . On August 22, 1788 he became the commandant of Rendsburg and the commanding general in Holstein . He died in 1789.
