Karl Witt (born November 11, 1923 in Dillenburg ) is a former German football player .
Career
Witt began playing football at SSV Dillenburg before he was taken prisoner by the English as a soldier. During this time he was allowed to train with the first division promoted Sheffield United . A little later he received a professional offer from West Ham United that was ready to be signed , but he preferred to return to his homeland.
Returned to Germany, he joined the Stuttgarter Kickers in the 1947/48 season , for which he played his first league game on April 18, 1948 in a 2-0 home win against VfR Mannheim . In his first season, ten more missions and a playoff for third place followed. In the following two seasons, he completed 58 league games, in which he was also able to excel as a goalscorer four times. He played his last league game for the Stuttgarter Kickers on May 14, 1950 in a 1-0 home game against TSV 1860 Munich . Since the team could not hold the class as bottom of the table , he moved within the league to Bayern Munich .
With 22 of 34 league games and three goals, he contributed to ninth place in the table in his first season . His debut for Bayern was successful with the 4-1 win in the away game against BC Augsburg on August 20, 1950 (1st matchday); he scored his first goal on September 10, 1950 (4th matchday) in a 2-1 win against SV Waldhof Mannheim in the stadium on Grünwalder Strasse with the 1-0 opening goal in the 59th minute.
In the following season he contributed with 29 league games and four goals to eighth place in the table . In his last season, in which he only made five appearances, FC Bayern Munich finished seventh in the table .
