Karl von Burger (theologian, 1805)

Heinrich Carl August von Burger (born May 1, 1805 in Bayreuth , † July 14, 1884 in Schönau near Berchtesgaden) was a Lutheran theologian.

Life

His parents were the jeweler and editor of the Bayreuth newspaper Christian Heinrich Carl von Burger (1777-1847; son of the court confectioner Johann Christoph v. B.) and Christiana Friederike (1784-1852; daughter of the bookseller Carl Gottlob Beck ).

He studied philology with L. Döderlein and theology with Christian Krafft in Erlangen. There he was a grammar school teacher for 10 years, then pastor in Fürth, pastor, dean in Munich and from 1855 to 1883 senior consistorial councilor. During his studies in Erlangen he became a member of the Bubenreuther fraternity in the winter semester of 1823/24 .

Together with Adolf von Harless he made the Bayer. Regional church to the Lutheran model church in teaching, worship and administration of the sacraments. His new hymn book and liturgy were among others. a. also adopted in America. He averted the threatening separation of Wilhelm Löhe and promoted the Gustav-Adolf-Verein in Bavaria.

Marriages and children

In 1832 he married Elise, a daughter of Christian Krafft, in Erlangen . With her he had seven daughters and their son Karl von Burger (theologian, 1834) (1834-1905), who was also senior consistorial advisor in Munich.

In 1856 he married Laura, a daughter of the senior consistorial councilor Faber, with whom he had two more daughters.
