Egilwart was bishop in Würzburg from 802 to 809 .

During the short term of office of Egilwart and his predecessor Liutrit, the two bishops tied in with the Slavic missionary work of Berowelf . Churches were built for the Main and Rednitz turns .

Donation activities to the Fulda monastery strained the economic situation of the Würzburg diocese. The privileges that Charlemagne granted the Neustadt am Main monastery resulted in greater autonomy for the monastery and its separation from the diocesan association.
