Wolfgar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wolfgar (also Wolfger ; *?; † November 831?) Was bishop in Würzburg from 809 or 810 to 831 or 832 .

As Bishop of Würzburg in 812, Wolfgar was involved in a round of arbitration commissioned by the Kaiser in a dispute between the abbot and the monks of the Fulda monastery . It also included the Archbishop of Mainz and the Bishops of Worms and Augsburg. Possibly this role of mediator contributed to the relaxation of the relationship between the monastery and Würzburg. In 815 a settlement was made between Fulda and Würzburg, according to which numerous villages in what is now Lower Franconia had to pay their tithes to Fulda. At the same time, further claims by Fulda are rejected.

Wolfgar only appeared in imperial politics under Ludwig the Pious . Several advocates of Ludwig's favor have come down to us.
