Bruno of Würzburg
Bruno von Würzburg (* around 1005; † May 27, 1045 Persenbeug ), also known as Bruno of Carinthia , from the Salier family , was Chancellor of Italy from 1027 to 1034 and bishop of Würzburg from April 14, 1034 .
Origin and imperial politics

Bruno was the son of Duke Konrad I of Carinthia and Mathilde of Swabia and thus the cousin of the Salier emperor Konrad II . For Henry III. he wooed Agnes von Poitou , accompanied her on his campaign in Hungary and was killed in an accident in Persenbeug on the Danube in what is now Lower Austria .
Accidental death of Bruno
The traveling party of Heinrich III. had stopped at the Countess Richlinde von Ebersberg, who was faced with the task of distributing the inheritance of her recently deceased husband Adalbero II von Ebersberg . At a feast of the hostess, a supporting pillar broke below the ballroom and caused the entire floor to collapse, so that those present fell into the bathroom below. The king was slightly injured, but the hostess, Bruno and the abbot Altmann of the Ebersberg monastery were so badly injured that they did not survive the next few days. The annals of Niederaltaich provide a legendary prehistory: During the Danube vortex near Grein , the devil is said to have already appeared to the bishop and threatened him, but the bishop was still able to banish him. The bishop's body was transferred to his residence.
Many cathedral buildings were built during that time, and there was even talk of a building euphoria. Under Bruno, the new construction of the Würzburg Cathedral St. Kilian began in 1040 . The inauguration of the crypt on June 16, 1045 was combined with Bruno's burial. The Catholic Church commemorates him on May 27th .
