Karl von Moltke
Karl Graf von Moltke (born November 15, 1798 in Kiel , † April 12, 1866 in Assiten , Kurland Governorate ) was a German politician in the Danish service.
Life
Karl von Moltke was the son of Adam Gottlob Detlev von Moltke (1765–1843), who was also a politician who took care of Danish affairs. In 1826 he took over the Nütschau estate near Oldesloe from his father .
Karl von Moltke became President of the Schleswig-Holstein - Lauenburg Chancellery in 1846 by issuing an open letter and tried in vain to prevent the progressive secession of the duchies. After the end of the German-Danish War (1848 to 1850) he took over the Ministry for Schleswig . In this position he carried out the Danish reaction with ruthless severity between 1851 and 1854, but was then dismissed. The General German Real Encyclopedia for the Educated Estates said in 1867 that he and his (half) brother Friedrich Adamson von Moltke had allowed themselves to be used as tools of Danish policy against Schleswig-Holstein .
Only after the German-Danish War in 1864 did he return to the Danish cabinet for a short time as a minister without portfolio , which then concluded the Peace of Vienna .
Karl Graf von Moltke died on April 12, 1866. His son, Chamberlain Adam Heinrich Carl Graf von Moltke, sold Nütschau in 1850 to Rudolph von Seydlitz-Kurzbach (* 1822 in Gumbinnen ), who moved to Gut Hasselburg in 1866 .
Moltke was a member of the Corps Guestphalia Heidelberg (1816) and the Corps Holsatia .
