Adam Gottlob Detlev Graf von Moltke (born January 15, 1765 in Odense , † June 17, 1843 in Lübeck ) was a German-Danish landowner, poet and poet.

Life

Adam Gottlob Detlev von Moltke was one of the sons of the Danish landowner and lieutenant general Christian Magnus Frederik von Moltke (1741-1813) and grandson of the Danish chief marshal Adam Gottlob von Moltke . He studied at the Universities of Copenhagen and Kiel. His friendship with Barthold Georg Niebuhr came from his studies in Kiel . He completed a general course tailored to his needs . Due to economic difficulties, the family's Danish goods had to be sold. He then acquired the Nütschau estate near Oldesloe as a (minor) surrogate . He handed Nütschau over to his eldest son Karl in 1826 and moved to Lübeck, where he lived on Königstrasse until his death. As a book collector he left behind a large private library that was auctioned in Hamburg in 1852. His bust of Bertel Thorvaldsen is in the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen, a marble version in the Kunsthalle Kiel .

In addition to his work as a landowner, Moltke emerged as a poet from the Klopstock School and wrote numerous writings. During his time there, Nütschau became a meeting place for like-minded people in Schleswig-Holstein. Moltke also dealt intensively with legal questions relating to the constitution of the Schleswig-Holstein knighthood .

Friedrich Adamson von Moltke was one of his sons from the three marriages .
