(15728) Karlmay is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on October 11, 1990 by Freimut Börngen and Lutz D. Schmadel at the observatory of the Thuringian State Observatory in Tautenburg .
The asteroid was named after the German writer Karl May (1842–1912).
