location

The Marienhof property is located on Karmannsstrasse, which connects Sternstrasse with Aachener Strasse at the foot of the old town and along the piped Gladbach .

architecture

The building complex on Karmannsstrasse consists of twelve residential units, which are built around a small, today z. Some of the spaces used as a parking lot are grouped. The houses consist of three rows of two-storey brick buildings under flat roofs at right angles to each other .

The facade design is largely uniform in all buildings: The ground and upper floors in brickwork rise above a - today - plastered base . They are separated from each other by a cornice made of bricks . The pronounced horizontal structure of the building is emphasized by the use of bands made of yellow brick layers in the facade and the protruding flat roofs with the old, ornate rafters .

Risalit-like projecting facade surfaces structure the buildings, which are to be understood as terraced houses . The building component, which is parallel to the street to the east of the inner courtyard, is more representative than the two building elements on the side of the inner courtyard that are at right angles to it due to its larger area, its sloping building corners and the house entrances arranged in the two projections. This effect is additionally emphasized by a statue of the Virgin Mary in a niche on the upper floor , which probably gave the complex its name.

Window and door entrances are in portrait format with arches , stairways in front of the entrances, doors and window frames have been modernized. The floor plan with a hallway opening across the building, from which the two rooms on the ground floor and first floor (ground floor: kitchen and living room, upper floor: bedroom or bathroom) can be reached, has been preserved as in most houses Stairwell .
