Karola-Elke Stange , b. Unger (born October 27, 1959 in Weimar ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ) and has been a member of the Thuringian state parliament since 2009 .

education and profession

Karola Stange grew up in the Weimar area, where she attended the polytechnic high school in Mellingen and Lehnstedt . After completing the 10th grade in 1976, she completed an apprenticeship as a gardener at the LPG "Valley of Peace" in Kromsdorf , followed by a technical college degree at the Horticultural Engineering School in Erfurt from 1979 to 1982 .

politics

From 1984 she was an employee of the SED district leadership in the agricultural department, from 1988 she was an employee of the SED city leadership in Erfurt.

After the political change , Stange worked in 1990 for the Erfurt municipal association of the PDS and at the beginning of 1991 became an employee of the PDS parliamentary group in the Thuringian state parliament for social policy.

Stange has been a member of the Erfurt city council since 1999, and she is also a member of the Hochheim district council . In 2004 she was elected chairwoman of the PDS city association Erfurt (since 2007: Die Linke). In 2006 and 2018 she ran for the office of mayor in Erfurt. In the state elections in 2009 and 2014 , Stange was elected to the state parliament as a direct candidate of her party in the Erfurt I constituency, in 2009 with 30.2%, in 2014 with 36.8%. There she is chair of the Equal Opportunities Committee and a member of the Committee on Social Affairs, Family and Health.

voluntary work

Stange is active in a large number of honorary positions, including as deputy state chairwoman of the People's Solidarity in Thuringia and as chairwoman of the Handicap Sports Club Erfurt.
