Karoline Princess of Orange-Nassau-Diez (born February 28, 1743 in Leeuwarden , † May 6, 1787 in Kirchheimbolanden ) was Princess of Nassau-Weilburg by marriage .

Life

Karoline was a daughter of Prince Wilhelm IV and Anna of Hanover (1709–1759), the daughter of King George II of Great Britain . She was described as an intelligent, bright woman who was very musical, sang and played the piano. In 1765 the young Mozart played her in The Hague and dedicated six piano sonatas (KV 26–31) to her. Mozart visited her again a year later at court in The Hague and in 1778 he spent a week on a concert tour in the Kirchheimbolanden residence in Nassau-Weilburg .

Marriage and offspring

At the request of her mother, she married Prince Karl Christian von Nassau-Weilburg (1735–1788) in The Hague on March 5, 1760 at the age of 17 . The couple had 14 children:
