The Kleine Karpfsee and the Große Karpfsee are two small moor lakes near Bad Heilbrunn, only approx. 250 m apart . They are located in the Mürnsee district in the Bad Heilbrunn community.
The Kleiner Karpfsee is connected to the Großer Karpfsee via a ditch. The Großer Karpfsee is completely surrounded by a belt of reeds and partly drains into the Loisach without surface drainage .
In the first half of the 19th century , the water area of the Großer Karpfsee was around 4.5 hectares , that of the Kleiner Karpfsee almost two hectares. Both lakes are now less than two hectares each.
