The Carthusian horse ( span. Cartujano ) is a special breeding line within the Pura Raza Española (short PRE); these are often referred to as Andalusians .
Background information on horse evaluation and breeding can be found under: Exterior , interior and horse breeding .
Exterior
The appearance of the Carthusian corresponds essentially to the PRE , although it is usually smaller and lighter. He reaches a height of about 152 cm. The Carthusian monks are mostly gray , but occasionally brown and black horses are also found.
interior
Similar to the Andalusian, the Carthusian is proud and gentle at the same time and also shows its other positive characteristics.
Breeding history
The breed owes its name to the monks of the Carthusian Order , who established breeding in the Carthusian monastery of Jerez de la Frontera in the 15th century . The Andalusian monks had received 4,000 hectares of land from the Spanish royal family to establish a stud farm. They were very careful about the pure breeding of their horses and even disregarded the king's request for a crossbreeding of Neapolitans . The Carthusian monks were able to maintain their breeding even after the Iberian horse breeds went out of fashion in the rest of Europe.
Branding
The best known is probably the hierro del bocado, the curb brandy. This was available with a small c, but also without it. However, many other breeder brandies are also known and recognized as Karthauser brandies.
