The Kazakh language Wikipedia ( Қазақша Уикипедия ) is the output of Wikipedia in the Kazakh language .

The Kazakh language Wikipedia started on June 3, 2002. In 2011, it developed from 7,000 to over 100,000 articles within a few months.

With more than 222,000 articles on November 12, 2018, it is considered the 39th largest language version of Wikipedia. It is also considered to be the second largest edition of Wikipedia in one of the Turkic languages .

The specialty of this Wikipedia edition is that it is written in three different alphabets , namely in the Cyrillic ( Kazakhstan , Russia , Uzbekistan and Mongolia ), Latin ( Turkey , Europe and the rest of the world) and Arabic alphabet ( China and Iran ). The Cyrillic alphabet is used by default.

The Kazakh state joint-stock company Samruk Kazyna sponsored the Kazakh Wikipedia in 2011 with around 30 million tenge . Among other things, the money was made available for paid authors and for taking over from existing Kazakh encyclopedias and specialist literature, for digitizing images and texts and for their further processing. The funds were also used to purchase usage rights. In April 2012, was Tengri News announced that through a fund of Samruk Kazyna total of 204,000 US dollars were asked in 2011 and 136,000 US dollars for 2012 are available. The organization WikiBilim took on a leading role, and its President Rauan Kenzhekhanuly received the "Wikipedian of the Year" award from Jimmy Wales at the 2011 Wikimania conference , who also thanked the Kazakh government at Wikimania 2012.

The financial support from the Kazakh government, which has a bad reputation for press freedom, and the fact that Rauan Kenzhekhanuly, the president of WikiBilim, has a long career as a government official, sparked press discussions in late 2012 and 2013. The neutrality of the Kazakh Wikipedia, which has largely adopted the content of the national encyclopedia published by the Kazakh state, has also been questioned.
