Kastanienallee (Hanau)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kastanienallee in Hanau is the middle of three central avenues oriented towards the central projection of the Philippsruhe Palace .

course

It runs straight north from the castle, connects it with the pheasantry near Hanau-Wilhelmsbad and leads to the middle of the pheasantry. At the same time, this axis formed the southern aisle of the Jagdstern located in the center of the pheasantry . In total, it is 2.2 km long.

In its course it crosses the Frankfurter Landstrasse, the Frankfurt-Hanauer Eisenbahn , this with a bridge, the Beethovenplatz - an addition from 1927 - and the Maintaler Strasse.

The other two avenues, which run centrally towards the central projection of Philippsruhe Palace, are Philippsruher Allee (from the city of Hanau, from the east) and Burgallee from the north-west from Wilhelmsbad.

Development

The avenue is planted with chestnuts . Today's are from the 1960s. The avenue was laid out in 1722. In its southern half, which runs within the Hanau district of Kesselstadt , it has a closed development. The original predominantly single house development, some villas , but also semi-detached houses from the turn of the century before last, was partially destroyed during the air raids on Hanau in the Second World War and due to the disregard for the architecture of historicism in the post-war period. As a cultural monument , the house numbers 12 / 12a, 16, 34, 36/38, 44, 46, 47, 58, 70/72, 154, 155 and 157. are reported this today Furthermore as a cultural monument, the Roman Catholic Church of St. Elizabeth (House number 68) from 1963/64.

The new objectivity style is also built around Beethovenplatz ( see: Beethovenplatz (Hanau) ). Today the square and its buildings form the visual endpoint of the facility. Due to the Maintaler Straße running directly behind it and the fact that the gate through which the avenue then leads on the opposite side of the street through the wall surrounding the pheasantry is always closed, the northern end of the avenue is no longer visible to the public.
