The 10th Tour of Qatar ( Tour of Qatar ) was a cycling stage race . It took place from February 2nd to 4th for women and February 6th to 11th for men.
Men's race
The tour of Qatar was part of the UCI Asia Tour and was classified in category 2.1. The bike race was held in six stages over a distance of 714 kilometers. It started with a team time trial in the capital Doha in the Cultural Village. The route did not present any topographical difficulties, so sprinters dominated the tour.
The Australian Mark Renshaw from HTC-Highroad secured the victory just ahead of his compatriot Heinrich Haussler ( Team Garmin-Cervélo ) and the Italian Daniele Bennati from Leopard Trek .
Attendees

Stages and course of the race
The tour of Qatar started with a short prologue time trial in the Cultural Village of the capital Doha . The Dutch specialist Lars Boom was able to secure the gold jersey from time trial world champion Fabian Cancellara . The first stage across the peninsula, on which there were two intermediate sprints as on all other sections, ended in the sprint of a large group that had formed after a wind edge and was able to drive out onto the rest of the field for five minutes. Thanks to the time bonuses at the finish, the winner of the day Tom Boonen ( Quickstep Cycling Team ) took over the gold jersey. On the following day, Boonen was only able to defend it by just under a second, as the German-Australian Heinrich Haussler , second the day before, won the mass sprint, while Boonen was no longer credited with time in sixth.
The third stage led back and forth several times in the south of Doha between Al Wakra and Mesaieed, with the wind again playing an important role. After the edge of the wind the field split up and many drivers could no longer follow the pace of the first group. Again could Garmin-Cervélo -Fahrer Heinrich Haussler make the sprint successfully and also took the overall lead because Tom Boonen was dropped due to a defect. The field was also torn apart shortly before the finish the next day. Day winner Mark Renshaw ( HTC-Highroad ) took gold because Haussler did not receive a bonus as fourth. Since Renshaw also earned valuable time credits on the two intermediate sprints on the final day, which led the professionals back into the capital Doha, he was finally able to win the race, even if he and Haussler were unable to intervene in the fight for the day's victory the Italian neo-professional Andrea Guardini from Farnese Vini-Neri Sottoli secured.
