Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń

Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń ( Bulgarian Екатерина Попова ) (born April 30, 1948 in Sofia ) is a Polish pianist and music teacher of Bulgarian descent.

She studied pianistics first at the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Music Academy in Poznan , then at the Stanisław Moniuszko Music Academy in Gdansk with Zbigniew Śliwiński . After completing her studies, she perfected her art at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Alexander Jenner. She also took part in the master classes with Susanne Rocha, Dieter Zechlin and György Sebők.

In 1975 she took part in the 9th International Chopin Competition , where she reached the finals.

Since 1991 she has been working as a teacher at the Feliks Nowowiejski Music Academy in Bydgoszcz . She also mentors young pianists in the music schools of Gdansk , Thorn , Inowrocław , Piła , Konin , Słupsk and Koszalin .

Her pupils include the winner of the 2005 International Chopin Competition Rafał Blechacz and the pianist Łukasz Krupiński . She was u. a. Visiting professor in Kitakyūshū ( Fukuoka Prefecture , Japan ).

She gave concerts in the Polish Philharmonic as well as in Germany , the Czech Republic , the Soviet Union , Bulgaria , Austria and Japan.

She was a jury member of the 16th International Chopin Competition 2010 and was appointed chairman of the jury of the 17th competition in 2015.

In 2013 she was elected chairman of the Paderewski Society in Bydgoszcz. Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń was awarded the Gloria Artis Medal for Cultural Merit in 2005 as well as the Officer's Cross of the Polonia Restituta Order .
