Katharina Seidlitz

Katharina Seidlitz (* 1975 in Wolgast ) is a German painter and graphic artist.

Life

Katharina Seidlitz grew up in Erfurt . From 1994 to 1996 Katharina Seidlitz studied textile art at the HTW Zwickau in the applied arts department in Schneeberg . From 1996 she studied painting and graphics at the Dresden University of Fine Arts with Elke Hopfe and Ralf Kerbach . In 2001 Seidlitz graduated with a degree in painting. From 2001 to 2003 she was a master class student with Ralf Kerbach.

In 2014 Seidlitz was a guest artist at the workshop “Handpressdrucke II” in the Dresden graphics workshop. The workshop was funded by the Dresden Office for Culture and Monument Protection, the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts , the Dresden Kupferstichkabinett and the Baer Gallery. In 2018, Katharina Seidlitz was Artist in Residence at the Künstlerhaus FRISE in Hamburg, a travel grant from the state capital Dresden.

The work of Katharina Seidlitz includes painting, drawing, printmaking and ceramic design. In her work she deals with emotions in a still-poetic imagery and sometimes tells small stories. With the figure as a narrative aspect, drawings, serigraphs, acrylic works on canvas consciously move the supposedly banal, marginal phenomena, the unspectacular into the center of attention. The painter often reduces her picture statements to a few, concentrated spatial views.
