The baroque cathedral Santa Maria Assunta ( Italian: Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta ) is the cathedral of the diocese of Chioggia and the largest building in the Italian city of Chioggia in Veneto on the Venetian lagoon .

history

A first construction of the cathedral was completed in 1110. From 1623 to 1674 it was reconstructed by the architect Baldassare Longhena , with the facade still unfinished. Inside the cathedral there are sculptures and paintings in Baroque style from the 17th and 18th centuries, including the altarpieces by Palma il Giovane and Pietro Liberi and the bas-relief by Domenico Negri and other works by Cima da Conegliano .

In the immediate vicinity of the cathedral is the former city gate Porta di Santa Maria Assunta .

organ

The organ was built in 1788 by the organ builder Gaetano Callido, and was last restored by the organ builder Francesco Zanin in 2004. The instrument has 30 stops on two manuals and a pedal . The actions are mechanical.
