Kathi Käppel

Kathi Käppel (* 1977 in Heidelberg ) is a German artist (drawing, animation, installation).

Life

From 1996 to 2004 Kathi Käppel studied at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art . She graduated with a diploma under Nanne Meyer . In 2001 and 2002 she studied under Suzanne Buchan at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in Great Britain with a DAAD scholarship . Käppel is one of the co-founders of the group monogatari , which, among other things, attracted the attention of the comic scene and feature pages with the comic reports of its debut everyday espionage - comic reports from Berlin . This was nominated for the Max and Moritz Prize in 2002.

From 2000 to 2007 Käppel realized numerous animated music videos for the film production company filmlounge, including for the band Wir sind Helden Guten Tag - Die Reklamation and Von hier an blind . Since 2007 her work has focused on art and culture projects. In 2008 she and ATAK exhibited her installation Das Spektakel in the neurotitan gallery in Berlin, and in 2014 with Jim Avignon the installation Binary Hulahoop in the Crystal Ball gallery in Berlin.

Käppel's work has received numerous awards and has been published. She received annual scholarships from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Fulbright Commission and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom . Since 2008 she has been a jury member and curator for the Stuttgart International Animated Film Festival (ITFS).

After teaching assignments at the Burg Giebichenstein Art Academy in Halle , the University of the Arts in Berlin and the University of Lucerne Design & Art , Käppel taught as a visiting professor at the Art Academy Berlin-Weißensee from 2014 to 2018 . Since 2018 she has been researching at the Babelsberg Konrad Wolf Film University .

She is the mother of two sons and lives in Berlin and Frankfurt am Main.
