The sanctuary

The Roman Catholic parish church of Kukmirn stands halfway south above the market town of Kukmirn in the Güssing district in Burgenland . It is consecrated to St. Joseph and belongs to the Deanery Güssing of the Diocese of Eisenstadt . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

The parish of Kukmirn has existed since the Middle Ages. The first previous building, dedicated to St. John the Baptist , was first mentioned in a document in 1356 and stood east of the village in the Zickwald. The foundation walls of the second building were found in the “church fields”. The third building was first mentioned in 1697 and was dedicated to St. Mark . This was about a kilometer east of the village. The current church was built as a late baroque building between 1760 and 1765. A restoration took place between 1974 and 1976.

architecture

The church has a three-story tower in the west facade. It is crowned by a pointed helmet. The tower's ground floor is designed as an open vestibule. The remains of a Latin inscription can be seen on the facade gable : “HAEC ECCLESIA | AEDIFICARI COEP (TA?) ANNO 1760 | CONSUMATA EST ANO 1765 CURA ET | INDUSTRIA A (dmodum) R (everendi) D (omini) FERDINANDI WAGNER | ”( German translation:“ This church building was started in 1760 and will be finished in 1765 by the Reverend Ferdinand Wagner ”). An equally wide polygonal choir adjoins the ship. The nave is three-bay and has a barrel vault with stitch caps . The three-axis gallery has a bulging parapet. The triumphal arch stands on double pilasters . There is a square vault in the choir bay and a cap vault in the apse.

Furnishing

The side altar

The high altar was created around 1770. The altarpiece, which was created around 1770 by an artist named Rohrer and restored in 1887, shows Saint Joseph. The picture is flanked by St. John the Baptist and St. Bartholomew . The side altar from the 17th century is a niche altar with partly rotated columns. The copper- embossed Madonna figure was created in 1765.

The organ was built in 1809.
