The Catholic Media Association (KM. Catholic Media Association eV) is an association of Catholic German media companies based in Bonn .

history

The Catholic Media Association emerged in 2000 from the merger of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Katholische Presse (AKP), which was founded in 1949, and the Association of Catholic Publishers and Booksellers (VKB), whose predecessor organizations can be traced back to 1906. The offices of the two associations were already merged in 1998. The increased cooperation was perceived against the background that a quarter of the members organized in the booksellers association were also represented in the AKP. In addition, those responsible saw great similarities between the two associations in terms of their goals, tasks and structures. An annual contact meeting between the two managing directors should help to further intensify cooperation. In the year 200, the last step in this merger process was the merger of the two associations to form the Katholischer Medienverband e. V. (KM.) Based in Bonn.

Aims and tasks of the Catholic Media Association

The purpose of the association is to support its members in their work for the media, to represent their interests in church and society and to promote joint further education. This also includes campaigning for the dissemination of basic Christian values ​​in the media. In particular, this happens through:

    • Public relations for religious media
    • Advice and support for members in the fields of publishing, editorial and bookselling work, information, sales, advertising and advertising as well as in all cases in which joint action makes sense

  • the planning and implementation of specific advanced training events
  • the protection of the interests of Catholic media companies, media associations and media professionals in public

    • Publication of statements and opinions on media issues
    • Cooperation with church institutions / institutions and associations as well as other institutions that deal with media issues
  • Cooperation in ecumenism
  • Cooperation with organizations abroad, with institutions in the field of reading promotion as well as with other associations and professional institutions and government agencies
  • the settlement of disputes among the members through an arbitration board to be set up by the board

Structure and bodies

The highest decision-making body is the general assembly. She elects the chairman. The members are also organized in four conferences (booksellers conference, book publishers conference, magazine publishers conference, editors conference). Each conference sends a speaker and a deputy speaker to the board. Three permanent committees / working groups work on the board: AG Economy and Finance, AG Advanced Training and AG Marketing and Public Relations. In addition, temporary, topic-specific project groups can be set up. The seat of the office is in Munich . Further facilities of the KM. are industry-specific groups to share experiences. The KM. sends representatives to various church and media bodies:

Together with the Society of Catholic Publicists in Germany and the German Bishops' Conference , the Catholic Media Association awards the Catholic Media Prize every year.
