Kathrin Heike Wahlmann b. Rühl (born August 4, 1977 in Osnabrück ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2013 to 2017 she was a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament .

Education, work and family

She attended the Hüggelschule Hasbergen from 1984 to 1988 , then the school on the Roten Berg in Hasbergen until 1990, then switched to the Ratsgymnasium Osnabrück . She graduated from school in 1997 with a high school diploma. She then studied law at the University of Münster and the Université Paris II (Panthéon-Assas) and completed specialist foreign language training for lawyers (French) in Münster. She passed the first state examination in law in 2003 and then worked as a trainee lawyer at the Osnabrück Regional Court from 2004 to 2006 . In 2006 she passed the second state examination in law. From 2007 she worked as a judge in the district of the Hamm Higher Regional Court . From 2009 until her election to the state parliament in 2013, she was a judge at the Bielefeld Regional Court . In 2010 she was appointed judge at the regional court. She is a member of the Ver.di union and of the German Association of Judges .

Kathrin Wahlmann has been married since 2013. She has two daughters.

Kathrin Wahlmann has been a member of the SPD since March 1996. From 2005 to 2007 she was a member of the district executive committee of the SPD Osnabrück-Land, in 2007 she became deputy district chairwoman. Since 2008 she has been a member of the district executive committee of the SPD Weser-Ems and since 2010 chairwoman of the SPD Hasbergen as well as a member of the state executive committee of the SPD Lower Saxony . Since 2012 she has also been a member of the Lower Saxony state board of the working group of social democratic lawyers .

In 1996 she was elected to the Hasbergen municipal council for the first time , and has been the council chairwoman there since 2011. In 2006 she became a member of the district council of the Osnabrück district , and since 2011 she has been the deputy chairwoman of the district council.

She took part in the twelfth Federal Assembly on May 23, 2004 , at which Horst Köhler was elected Federal President .

In the state elections in 2008 and 2013 , she ran as a direct candidate for the SPD in the Georgsmarienhütte constituency . Although it was defeated both times by Martin Bäumer of the CDU, in 2013 it entered the Lower Saxony state parliament via the SPD's state list . In April 2017, she announced that she would not run again in the next state election and would return to the office of judge, which would be more compatible with her role as a mother.
