Martin Bäumer (born October 3, 1967 in Mineola , New York ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He has been a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament since 2003 .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1987 at the Greselius-Gymnasium in Bramsche and completing basic military service in the armed forces, Bäumer trained as a savings bank clerk at Sparkasse Osnabrück . In 1992 he took a specialist course at the Sparkassenakademie Hannover and graduated as a savings bank economist. In 2000 he studied finance economics at the European Business School in Oestrich-Winkel . Until 2003 he was deputy head of the sales management for individual customers at Sparkasse Osnabrück.

Bäumer has been married since 1997 and has four children.

Martin Bäumer has suffered from psoriasis since 1990 . He was supposed to pay a special cleaning fee of 30 euros during a private stay in the Steigenberger Hotel Berlin in July 2016 because, according to the hotel management, his room could not be cleaned at the "normal" rate due to the dander. The German Psoriasis Association (DPB), which represents the interests of around 2.5 million people with psoriasis in Germany, has sharply criticized the hotel's action. According to the "Express", the DPB had asked Steigenberger CEO Puneet Chhatwal for a statement and an apology. The “special cleaning fee” was a “particularly despicable and discriminatory form of stigmatization”.

Bäumer has been a member of the CDU and the Junge Union since 1986 . From 1991 to 2011 he was mayor of the village of Glandorf-Westendorf, from 1993 to 1996 chairman of the district association of the Junge Union Osnabrück-Land and from 1994 to 2007 chairman of the CDU community association Glandorf . Here he has been a member of the local council since 1996. Since 1996 he has also been represented in the district council of the Osnabrück district. In 1998 Bäumer became a board member of the CDU district association Osnabrück-Land, and in 2001 he was deputy chairman of the CDU district parliamentary group. From the local elections in 2011 until summer 2019, he was chairman of the CDU district parliamentary group and chairman of the CDU / FDP / UWG group in the district council. In the state elections in 2003 , 2008 , 2013 and 2017 he was elected as a direct candidate in constituency 76 Georgsmarienhütte in the Lower Saxony state parliament. In the CDU parliamentary group in Lower Saxony, Martin Bäumer has been the spokesman for the environment, energy and climate protection since 2008 and has been deputy group chairman for the environment and petitions since 2017. In the renewed election of the parliamentary committee on December 3, 2019, Bäumer received the best result among the members of the executive board.

After a chemical disposal plant in Ritterhude exploded in September 2014 , killing one employee and injuring several residents, Bäumer accused Lower Saxony's then Environment Minister Stefan Wenzel (Greens) in September 2017 of not having consistently investigated the explosion. According to an expert opinion commissioned by the CDU, the system should not have been allowed to operate in a residential area since 2005.
The public prosecutor's office in Verden had stopped further investigations after five months: Since traces and business documents had been destroyed in the explosion and a technical defect could not be ruled out, a conviction of the accused could not be expected in the event of an indictment being brought.

Bäumer made three written inquiries to the state government on the subject of chemtrails and geoengineering . The red-green state government, however, considered it superfluous to examine these theories more closely. In a reply it says: "The rapidly increasing air traffic is responsible for the phenomenon of increasing contrails that can be observed in the sky and their unusual shapes".

The Glandorf CDU politician is very committed to environmental policy against the entry of plastic into the environment, be it through microplastics or through useless foils around brochures.
