National team

Katrín played her first international match on May 9, 1994 shortly before her 17th birthday in a 4-1 win against Scotland , but continued to play for the U-21 team until 2001. She has been the captain of the senior national team since August 26, 2007. She was part of the squad at the European Women's Football Championship in Finland in 2009 and was on the field in all three preliminary round matches. The team was eliminated from the tournament with zero points, but lost to Norway and Germany only just 0: 1. In 2011, she and her team reached the final of the Algarve Cup , which was lost 4-2 to the USA, making Iceland, which has participated nine times, for the first time among the top four teams.

In 2013 she took part in the women's European football championship for the second time with the national team. In the first game against Norway, the Icelandic team won the first point in a final round with a 1-1 draw. After a 3-0 defeat against Germany , the final group game against the Netherlands was won 1-0, with Iceland winning a European Championship final for the first time and moving into the quarter-finals against hosts Sweden as the best third party in the group . There the Icelanders had no chance at 0: 4 and were eliminated from the tournament. Katrín, who played in the national team when her youngest team-mate was not yet born, then announced the end of her career as a national player. However, the new national coach Freyr Alexandersson nominated it again for the first qualifying game for the 2015 World Cup. It was then used on September 26th.
