Katsugeki / Touken Ranbu (活 撃 刀 剣 乱舞) is a 2017 anime TV seriesbasedon the video game Touken Ranbu. It was produced by Ufotable studio anddirected by Toshiyuki Shirai . After the anime was finished, a film project was announced. In addition, a manga has been published in Jump Square Magazinesince July 4th, 2017.

In 1863 Japan was divided into two warring factions. Izuminokami Kanesada is a token danshi ( 刀 剣 男士 , "sword boy " or "sword warrior "), a historical Japanese blade, which was materialized into a man by the Saniwa ( 審 神 者 ). Together with Horikawa Kunihiro, they pursue the Jikan sokogun ( 時間 遡 行軍 , " Time Reversal Army"), who want to change the course of history with a mysterious artifact.
Production and publication
The anime was created at Studio Ufotable under the direction of Toshiyuki Shirai . Koji Eto was the artistic director and Hideyuki Fukasawa composed the music . The opening credits are Hikari Dantsu Ame ( ヒ カ リ 断 ツ 雨 ) by Sōma Saitō and the credits are underlaid with Hyakka Ryōran ( 百 火 撩乱 ) by Kalafina.
The series aired from July 1 to September 23, 2017 on Tokyo MX , BS11 , GTV, GYT, MBS , AT-X , OX, KSS and EBC in Japan. Various platforms showed an English subtitled version online, Wakanim also a French one and VVVVID an Italian one. While the licensing in America is through Aniplex of America , in Germany the anime is available on DVD through KSM Anime.
