Katts and Dog (AKA: Katt and Dog ) is a Canadian families - television series , the first time on 17 September 1988 by Canadian television station CTV and soon after by the US cable television channel The CBN Family Channel was broadcast, which was only renamed the verge. The series mainly deals with the work of the police officer and dog handler Hank Katts (played by Jesse Collins ) and his partner, the police dog Rinnie (played by the German shepherd Rudolph Von Holstein III ).
Other German alternative titles in the series are Katts & Dog - Zwei wie Hund und Katz or Katts & Dog - Ein Herz und ein Schnauze . The German-language synchronization of the series, which was produced from 1988 to 1993 and consists of 106 or 107 episodes in five seasons, was carried out by Arnold & Richter KG in Munich under the direction of Inez Günther . It was first broadcast in German on December 8, 1990 on what was then RTL plus .

The series deals with the life and work of Hank Katts, who worked his way up as the son of immigrants in the steelworking milieu and after graduating from the police academy, due to his loose mouth and his idiosyncrasy, finds accommodation in the K-9 Corps, a dog squadron of the Metropolitan Police Department . There soon a very successful collaboration between Katts and the German Shepherd Dog Rinnie, a direct successor to the famous Rin Tin Tin . In addition, the series also deals with the life of Katt's widowed sister-in-law Maggie Davenport and her 11-year-old son Stevie Katts, both of whom often get into dangerous or unpleasant situations. Even in the first season, the character of Maggie Davenport left the series when her character was killed in a plane crash on the way to South America . After that, Stevie's grandmother Alice Davenport briefly looks after her grandson with Katts. In a further episode, Stevie is adopted by his uncle Hank Katts at the beginning of the third season.

DVD publications
To date (as of November 2015), DVD publications have only been made in French and without subtitles. However, only some of the 106 to 107 episodes were released in a total of three DVD boxes.
Spin-off
The feature-length television film Officer Katts and Rudy visit Paris , also known as Rin Tin Tin and the Paris Conspiracy , was released as a spin-off in 1991 . The film, in which a paramilitary group wants to take over the world from Paris , premiered on December 1, 1991.
Trivia
While the German Shepherd Dog is known in Francophone Canada under the name Rudy , the dog in the version, the series in the USA under the title Rin Tin Tin: K-9 Cop was called Rinty or like its famous predecessor Rin Tin Tin . In the French version, which was broadcast on the now defunct station La Cinq , the dog's name was also Rinty , while the series was titled Rintintin Junior .
The series was also particularly popular in the various successor states of the Soviet Union .
The series was shot primarily in Canada's largest city, Toronto . Another location and location was, among other things, the French capital Paris.
