The Katzengraben is a brook in the 13th district of Hietzing in Vienna . It is a feeder of the Lainzerbach .

course

The Katzengraben has a length of 2400 m with a height difference of 114 m. Its catchment area is 1.8 km².

The stream runs through the Lainzer Tiergarten . It rises immediately south of the Rohrhaus rest house and flows from there in a south-easterly direction. It passes the Hermesvilla and flows into the Lainzerbach on the left at the Lainzer Tor of the Lainzer Tiergarten.

history

In the course of the construction of the Hermesvilla from 1882 to 1886, the course of the Katzengraben was slightly changed at this point. So a branch was dissolved and the bank was secured.

ecology

Water beetles and amphipods from the Gammaridae family live in the upper reaches . In addition, larvae of the striped spring damsel ( Cordulegaster bidentata ) were found.

The Katzengraben is crossed by the following bridges, lined up in the direction of flow:

  • Canteen building bridge: The 7 m long and 4 m wide stone road bridge near the canteen building of the Hermesvilla was built in 1940.
  • Park bridge: The 6 m long and 8 m wide reinforced concrete road bridge on Hermesvillaweg was built in 1949.
  • Nature trail footbridge II: The 3 m long and 2 m wide stone pedestrian bridge near the Hermes Villa was built in 1940.
  • Heustadelbrücke: The 9 m long and 3 m wide road bridge was built in 1940.
  • Enclosure bridge: The 5 m long and 6 m wide reinforced concrete road bridge on Hermesstrasse was built in 2001.
