Kawartha Lakes

The Kawartha Lakes

The Kawartha Lakes are a group of lakes in south-central Ontario , Canada .

They are located in the upper part of the Trent River catchment north of Lake Ontario and east of Lake Simcoe .

The Kawartha Lakes lie along the border between the limestone region of the Golden Horseshoe from the Paleozoic Era in the south and a granite region of the Canadian Shield from the Precambrian in the north.

The town of Kawartha Lakes was named after the lakes. It is located in the west of the lake group. The Trent-Severn Waterway , a canal that connects Georgian Bay on Lake Huron with the Bay of Quinte on Lake Ontario , runs through many of the main chain's lakes. Many holiday homes are located on the lakes. The main source of income is tourism .
