Kazimierz Staszewski (also: Kazik Staszewski or just Kazik ) (born March 12, 1963 in Warsaw ) is a Polish rock / punk / rap singer, lyricist and saxophonist .

Life

Kazik grew up with his mother and grandmother in Warsaw. He hardly knew his father Stanisław Staszewski , a poet and musician. When he was four years old, the father had to leave the family due to disputes with the socialist regime and fled to France , where he died in January 1973. In May 1981 Kazik graduated from high school .

In 1979 he founded the band Poland, from which Novelty Poland emerged in 1981. The name Novelty Poland is derived from the song Novelty by the band Joy Division . Novelty Poland broke up after three months and one concert. 1982 Kazik founded the band Kult on the basis of Novelty Poland ; In 1992 he founded Kazik na Żywo and in 1998 El Doopa. In 1991 he began a solo career at the same time.

Kazik's music can mainly be classified as rock and punk rock; Reggae , rap and jazz elements can also be found in his music . Kazik sings most of his songs in Polish , individual songs or text passages are also in Russian , English or German . Many of his texts are critical of society or have a political background. In 1991 the song called Wałęsa dawaj nasze sto milionów! (“Wałęsa - give us our hundred million”) a national discussion, in which even Lech Wałęsa , the then President of Poland criticized in the song, spoke up.

Kazik has been awarded several prizes ( Paszport Polityki , Fryderyki , Machinery). At the MTV Europe Music Awards  2001 Kazik was awarded the prize for the best Polish band ("Best Polish Act"), but he turned it down - like some other awards before, because he is opposed to the appropriation of his music through marketing and commerce .

"Twój ból jest lepszy niz mój"

"Twój ból jest lepszy niz mój" (Eng. "Your pain is better than mine") is about a man who on April 10, 2020 luxury sedan and bodyguards before actually closed because of the Corona pandemic Warsaw Powazki cemetery drives up and there lays fresh flowers on his mother's grave. Without naming his name, the song is directed against the party leader of the ruling national populists of the Law and Justice Party (PiS) Jaroslaw Kaczynski . The listeners of the weekly hit parade of the third radio program Trojka voted the song first. On May 16, 2020, the Trojka editor-in-chief released a statement apologizing for allegedly breaking the rules and introducing a song from outside the list. The final result of the hit parade was falsified. The editors have decided to declare the vote on the hit list to be invalid. Polish musicians and members of the opposition spoke of censorship, and the ranks of the PiS and their supporters were also dissatisfied with this encroachment on artistic freedom. The presenter of the show Marek Niedzwiecki announced on May 18, 2020. He stated that he would discontinue cooperation with the third program in view of the allegation that he had improperly prepared the hit parade. Over ten other music presenters also left the station by May 20, 2020. Several artists called for a boycott of the station.
