Keb 'Mo'
Keb 'Mo' (* 3. October 1951 in Los Angeles , California ; actually Kevin Moore ) is an American blues - singer , guitarist and songwriter . His great role model is the blues legend Robert Johnson .
Life
Although he relies on Robert Johnson's music, he works on it in a contemporary way, incorporating elements of soul and folk into his music. Moore had his own calypso band early on . In the 1970s and 1980s he played in various blues bands, including the backing band of Papa John Creach . A solo album recorded in 1980 flopped. In 1983 he became a guitarist in the Monk Higgins Band. Here he met various blues musicians who influenced his guitar style. Keb 'Mo' himself describes this period as the most important in his musical development.
His next solo album, Keb 'Mo' , was only released in 1994, marking the beginning of his solo career under this name. Since then he has received five Grammys (Best Contemporary Blues Album) for Just Like You , Slow Down , Keep It Simple, TajMo (together with Taj Mahal ) and 2020 for Oklahoma in the category (Best Americana Album).
Already in 1990 Keb 'Mo' had a role as a blues musician in a play. In 1997 he played Robert Johnson in the film Can't You Hear the Wind Howl? , 2007 in Honeydripper .
Instruments
Keb 'Mo' prefers to play guitars made by Gibson with a small body . In his honor, the company brought the Keb 'Mo' Blue Master - signature guitar out.
