Kecel ( Croatian Kecelj ) is a town in the Kiskőrös district in Bács-Kiskun County in southern Hungary . It has almost 9,000 inhabitants (as of 2010).
history
The first written mention of the place comes from the year 1198. After the destruction by the Tatars and Turks, Kercel was re-established in 1734. In 1869 the first post office was built. In 1882 the place was connected to the railway network. The telephone network was set up in 1928. In 1952 the place was electrified. Since 1960, 42 ° C warm healing water has been flowing from a 1000 meter deep borehole. It contains iodine and bromine. In 1970 Kecel became a large municipality and in 1993 a town.
Community partnerships
Kecel maintains partnerships with the Bavarian municipality of Schwarzenbruck (since 1991), with Bad Tabarz in Thuringia and the Romanian city of Lupeni (since 2009).
