The Southern Great Plain ( Hungarian : Dél-Alföld ) is one of seven regions in Hungary on a NUTS 2 basis (code: HU33) . The region consists of the three counties

The largest cities in the Southern Great Plain are Hódmezővásárhely , Kecskemét , Békéscsaba and Szeged . The region has 1,318,214 inhabitants and is the largest Hungarian region with its 18,339 km².

The region is located in the southern part of Hungary and borders the states of Romania and Serbia . The four neighboring regions are the Northern Great Plain and Central Hungary in the north and Central Transdanubia and South Transdanubia in the west.
