action
JR is a typical man of American-Italian descent from New York. When he falls in love with a young woman one day, he decides to give up his previous life for her and to marry her. But then he learns that she was raped some time ago and he can't handle it because of his strict Catholic origins.
background
The film premiered on November 15, 1967 at the Chicago International Film Festival , where it won in the category for best film. The budget for the film was $ 75,000.
criticism
The lexicon of international film judged that the film production was a "partly quite half-baked first work". It would anticipate "themes of his [Scorseses] later films". The film conveys an "authentic atmosphere of the heroes' urban living space". This, as well as the “directness” of the film, would overcome its “theses”.
