history

The first lighthouse on Kegnæs was built in 1845. In 1896 this lighthouse was replaced by the larger, today's lighthouse. At that time, the Kegnæs lighthouse was the only lighthouse in the Flensburg area. When more and more naval units were relocated to Flensburg at the end of the 19th century and the naval stations in Flensburg-Mürwik and Sonderborg were finally set up at the beginning of the 20th century , several lighthouses were built along the Flensburg Fjord at the same time . The military expansion could have played a role in the decision to build the lighthouses.

After the referendum in Schleswig in 1920, the lighthouse was handed over to the Danish administration. During the Second World War , from 1940 until the end of the war, German soldiers were stationed at the lighthouse.
