Kelcy L. Warren (born November 9, 1955 in Gladewater , Texas ) is an American civil engineer , billionaire, lobbyist and founder and CEO of Energy Transfer Partners and chairman of the board of directors of Energy Transfer Equity . The Dallas companies are behind the highly controversial Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) project in the US state of North Dakota.

Life

Kelcy Warren, who was born in 1955, grew up in the small town of White Oak in east Texas . He studied civil engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington . After completing his studies in 1978, he worked in the gas industry. From 1981 to 1992, Warren worked for Endevco Inc. , a natural gas production company. He has held a variety of management positions at the company, including President and Chief Operating Officer . Warren was Executive Vice President of Cornerstone Natural Gas Inc from 1989 to 1990 and its President and Chief Operating Officer from 1993 to 1996.

In 1995 he founded Energy Transfer with partner Ray C. Davis . The company also bought the Texas Rangers baseball team . In 2007 Warren became the company's co-CEO and chairman. In 2012, Warren's firm bought Sunoco for $ 5.3 billion.

In 2007, the year he was promoted to CEO of his company, he founded the music label Music Road Records as an independent label based in Austin. He also founded the Cherokee Crossroads charity , which is funded by the Cherokee Creek Music Festival , which takes place every May . Cherokee Crossroads finances child and youth work and community organizations.

Business magazine Forbes estimated Warren's net worth at $ 4.3 billion in September 2017, placing him at number 86 on the list of the richest Americans. Bloomberg puts Warren 405th on the list of the richest people in the world. Most of his fortune is based on his eighteen percent stake in Energy Transfer Equity .

Warren is now married after two divorces and has one son, Klyde. Kelcy Warren lives in Preston Hollow, Dallas.

Lobbying

As a private person and through his companies, Warren supported the election campaigns of mostly Republican politicians at the state and state levels with several million US dollars. He sponsored Rick Perry's presidential campaign with $ 500,000. After the 2016 primaries, he supported Donald Trump's campaign team with at least $ 100,000. Just four days after his election as US president, Trump signed a decree to expedite the construction of the protests-accompanied DAPL . In doing so, he revoked the decision of his predecessor Barack Obama in December 2016 to stop the construction of the pipeline for the time being.

At the state level, Warren is a major sponsor of Texas Governor Greg Abbott .
