Kelly Sue DeConnick
Kelly Sue DeConnick (born July 15, 1970 ) is an American comic book writer .
DeConnick graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in theater studies and initially worked as a copywriter for men's magazines until she started publishing her own stories on the Internet forum of comic author Warren Ellis in the late 1990s . Ellis was so impressed that he got her a small job as an online comic book reviewer. It was through this contact that DeConnick made a name for herself as an editor in the then small US manga scene. DeConnick made her breakthrough in 2010 with Osborn , a miniseries about the Spider-Man villain Norman Osborn, with which she established herself as a regular author at Marvel Comics . In 2013 she wrote the independent comic book Pretty Deadly , which was nominated for the Eisner Award , and has been the author of the Marvel comic series Captain Marvel since 2013 .
DeConnick has been married to fellow comic book author Matt Fraction since 2002 , with whom she has two children. They met through Warren Ellis's Internet forum. DeConnick says she was once an alcoholic until she went to Alcoholics Anonymous in 2000 and did a successful rehab.
