Kemal Ahmet Faruki (born August 27, 1906 in Istanbul , † January 27, 1988 in Cairo ) was a Turkish football player and businessman. Through his many years of work for Galatasaray Istanbul and as its own generation, he is associated with this association. He was a member of the Galatasaray team that dominated Turkish football in the 1920s and 1930s and won five of eight possible Istanbul championships . Because of his unconventional style of play and his unexpected moves, he was referred to as Zıt Kemal ( Eng . Paradox Kemal ).

Player career

society

Faruki attended the renowned Galatasaray High School and played in the youth department of the traditional Galatasaray Istanbul club , which was founded in 1905 by students of the Galatasaray High School. Word of his footballing talent spread quickly in the Galatasaray community, so that he was accepted into the squad of the Galatasaray football team in the 1922/23 season. At the time of his entry into the professional squad, Istanbul was occupied due to the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in World War I (see Occupation of Istanbul ). After the Turkish teams did not play a league for a large part of this period of occupation, the İstanbul Cuma Ligi (German Friday League), the most prestigious league in the country at the time, was resumed in the 1920/21 season . Faruki completed only one league game for his club in his first season.

With the end of the occupation of Istanbul and the establishment of modern Turkey, football was also reformed in Istanbul. After several Istanbul leagues such as the Friday League and Sunday League existed in parallel in some seasons and competed with one another, the Istanbul Futbol Ligi (German Istanbul Football League ) was introduced in the summer . This league replaced or united all previous Istanbul leagues and ensured that all known Istanbul clubs played in the same league. Because there was no international professional league in Turkey at the time, there were instead regional leagues in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir , of which İstanbul Ligi (also called İstanbul Futbol Ligi) was considered the most renowned.

Faruki's team missed the championship against arch-rivals Beşiktaş Istanbul in the first season of this newly formed league . He himself was a reservist this season and was not used in competitive matches. In the second season, the 1924/25 season , Faruki and his team were indeed Istanbul champions, but he was again without a competitive game. It was only used again in the 1925/26 season. After it had only been used sporadically until the summer of 1928, it gained a regular place in the 1928/29 season. During this season he was Istanbul champion with his club and secured this title for the fourth time in a row. After he had awarded the championship in the 1929/30 season to arch rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul with his club, he decided the championship again for himself with his club in the 1930/31 season . Faruki scored 13 goals in ten games this season, making him by far the club's most successful goalscorer.

Faruki played for Galatasaray until the summer of 1934.

National team

Faruki began his national team career in 1927 with a commitment for the Turkish national team in a friendly against the Bulgarian national team . In this international debut, he also scored his first goal in the national dress. By April 1928, he completed two more internationals and scored another goal.

Family and entrepreneurial career

Faruki came from an aristocratic family . His father, Ahmet Mehmet Faruki, was one of the founders of the cosmetics and perfume industry in Turkey. After his footballing career ended, Faruki followed his father and started a career as an entrepreneur. He later settled in Egypt and worked successfully as an entrepreneur there.
