Ken Hargreaves
Joseph Kenneth "Ken" Hargreaves MBE (March 1, 1939 , † June 23, 2012 ) was a British Conservative Party politician who represented the Hyndburn constituency as a member of the House of Commons between 1983 and 1992 .
Life
Hargreaves, who worked as a manager , began his political career as a councilor ( councilor ) and mayor in local politics .
As a candidate for the Conservative Party, he was first elected a member of the House of Commons in the general election of June 9, 1983 in the Hyndburn constituency. He won this newly established constituency with a narrow majority of only 21 votes, which was only established after six vote counts.
After his re-election in the general election of June 11, 1987 , he suffered a loss in the general election of April 9, 1992 and received only 42.9 percent of the vote, while his opponent Greg Pope of the Labor Party received 46.9 percent of the vote and so that the lower house mandate won.
After leaving the House of Commons, Hargreaves, a devout Catholic , was involved in organizations against abortion and was made a member of the Order of the British Empire on December 29, 2005 for his services to the county of Lancashire . Shortly before his death, he was also welcomed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed knight of the Order of Gregory .
