Kenneth Lovsin (born December 4, 1966 in Peace River , Alberta ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player and coach who played for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League during his career and won the silver medal with Team Canada at the 1994 Winter Olympics .
Career
Ken Lovsin began his career in 1985 at Camrose Lutheran College in Camrose and continued his career a year later at the University of Saskatchewan , where he studied and played ice hockey for two years. Lovsin was selected in the first round of the 1987 NHL Supplemental Draft as the sixth player by the Hartford Whalers . But he never played in Hartford, but went on the ice for Team Canada for the next two years . On July 3, 1990, he signed a contract with the Washington Capitals . In the 1990/91 season he made his debut in the National Hockey League , but this was his only use in the NHL. He then played the following two years for the Baltimore Skipjacks in the American Hockey League , where he quickly fought for a regular place. In 162 games he scored 20 goals, gave 53 assists and collected 73 points.
For the 1992/93 season he signed a contract with the Swedish club Mora IK . After a season in the second highest Swedish league , he returned to North America and played again for Team Canada. At the 1994 Winter Olympics , he was used in eight games and won the silver medal with Team Canada. After the tournament he announced his career as an ice hockey player and became assistant coach for the Barrhead Bantam AA Pirates, a youth team from Alberta .
