Kendrapara is the capital of the district of the same name in the east of the Indian state of Odisha .
Kendrapara lies in the coastal plain 55 km east of Cuttack . The city is located 5 km from the northern branch of the Mahanadi estuary . The city is located on the national highway NH 5A , which connects the port city of Paradeep with the interior. As a city, Kendrapara has the status of a municipality . The city is divided into 21 wards . In the 2011 census, the population was 47,006.
