Kentenich pedagogy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kentenich pedagogy is a pedagogical technique developed by Josef Kentenich , which is mainly used in the Schoenstatt Movement that he founded . The basic pillars of Kentenich pedagogy are ideal pedagogy, trust pedagogy, attachment pedagogy, movement pedagogy and alliance pedagogy. The best known method is ideal pedagogy - the educator helps the person to be educated to recognize and develop his or her individual ideal. The "particular exam", the personal ideal and the "spiritual agenda" serve as an aid.

The model of the “ inner child ” that is popular today can be found in Kentenich pedagogy as early as the 1940s as the teaching of “inner soul processes”.

The goals are personal maturation and the education of free characters. Josef Kentenich developed this pedagogy , which is reminiscent of Carl Rogers in many aspects , as a teacher and spiritual in the Pallottine boarding school in Vallendar . Like Viktor Frankl for his logotherapy and existential analysis , he gained some important insights during his stay in the concentration camp .

application

The centers of the Schoenstatt Movement founded by Kentenich, numerous schools (including in Germany and Switzerland ) and the Academy for Family Education in Vienna work with Kentenich pedagogy .

Kentenich's most famous students include a. Josef Engling .

Methods

The particular exam is an educational technique for gradual spiritual maturation through small, time-separated goals. The student seeks himself short-term goals for personal maturity. The therapist should not become an educator, but rather encourage the client to educate himself. This becomes a "trained educator".

The student, also called “client”, is instructed to find his personal ideal based on his own experiences and longings , which, according to Kentenich, does not have to be “invented”, but is already in the soul and can be “discovered”. This long-term search shows parallels to the question of meaning in Viktor Frankl's existential analysis.

As an essential part of spiritual and educational growth, Kentenich recommended the spiritual agenda , i.e. the prayer routine of Catholic clergy and active lay people.

Impact history

As an early adopter of the Schoenstatt pedagogy can probably longtime head of the Paderborn teaching seminary Josef founders are considered, already in the 1920s, elements of the Kentenich pedagogy into the Fulda Bishops' Conference commissioned design and annotation (notes) new Curricula for religious instruction in elementary schools and a unified and simplified school catechism (unified catechism ) incorporated. The Catholic educationalists Friedrich Schneider and Franz Xaver Eggersdorfer also seem to have been inspired by Schoenstatt pedagogy.
