The Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant is located in Hongyanhe, Donggang, Wafangdian , Dalian , Liaoning Province in the People's Republic of China . The first phase consists of four reactors of the type CPR-1000 ( Chinese Pressurized Reactor ). Construction of the first reactor began in August 2007, and the reactor went into commercial operation in June 2013. The 2nd block started operations in November 2013, the 3rd block in August 2015 and the 4th block in September 2016. The second phase consists of two reactors of the ACPR-1000 type; the 5th block started construction in March 2015, the 6th block in July 2015.
Reactor design
The reactor type CPR-1000 is a Chinese pressurized water reactor of Generation II +, based on a French design, which is why part of the rights are with Areva. The ACPR-1000 reactor type is a Chinese development of Generation III, all rights are with the Chinese owners.
Reactor blocks
Construction of Unit 1 began in August 2007 and commercial operations began in June 2013. Construction of Unit 2 began in March 2007 and commercial operations began in February 2014. Construction of Unit 3 began in March 2009 and commercial operation in August 2015. Construction of Unit 4 began in August 2009 and commercial operation began in September 2016. The construction costs for the first four blocks are estimated at around 7 billion US dollars . The first four reactors together deliver 4,240 MWe of electricity.
The construction of Unit 5 started in March 2015, that of Unit 6 in July 2015; completion is planned for 2019 and 2020. The gross electricity generation should be 2160 MWe.
