The Ling'ao Nuclear Power Plant (alternative spelling Ling Ao ) is located in the Longgang District of Shenzhen City in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong . The plant is owned by China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Company, Ltd. (CGNPC) and is operated by Lianao Nuclear Power Company (LNPC). It is located on the Dapeng Peninsula on Dapeng Bay within the larger Daya Bay (Daya Wan).

The plant is in fact a copy of the Daya Wan nuclear power plant . This is only about one kilometer southwest of Ling'ao.

The first two reactors were designed by Framatome . The reactor core was made in China, by Shanghai No. 1 Machine and Tool Works . Besides the core, about 30% of the work was done in China. Blocks 3 and 4 have a higher proportion of Chinese technology; 50% and 70% were planned to be own contributions.

The cost of the first two reactors is estimated at $ 4 billion.

The energy is fed into the Hong Kong-Guangdong-Guangxi network. Around 70% of the grid energy is supplied to Hong Kong , where the Ling'ao NPP contributes around 30% to the energy supply (year 2000).

financing

The nuclear power plant is financed by foreign investors, above all by Electricité de France (EDF). BNP (now: BNP Paribas ) forms a pool with other banks such as West Merchant Bank and the English branch of WestLB . There are also export aids from Coface , Compagnie Française d'Assurance pour le Commerce Extérieur (France) and ECGD, Export Credits Guarantee Department (Great Britain).

Reactors

There are four reactors in operation: two pressurized water reactors with a net output of 938 MW and a gross output of 990 MW and two reactors of the type CPR-1000 with a net output of 1007 MW and a gross output of 1080 MW. The Daya Wan nuclear power plant is also located just 1.2 kilometers from the nuclear power plant .

history

Construction of the first reactor block began on May 15, 1997. Construction of the second unit began on November 28, 1997. The Ling'ao 1 reactor became critical for the first time on February 4, 2002 , the second unit on August 27, 2002. Unit 1 went into commercial operation on May 28, 2002 and Block 2 on January 8, 2003.

Construction of the Ling'ao 3 reactor began on December 15, 2005. It first became critical on June 9, 2010. On July 15, 2010 it was synchronized with the power grid for the first time and finally started commercial operation on September 15, 2010. Construction of the fourth block began on June 15, 2006 and on May 3, 2011 the reactor was synchronized with the power grid for the first time, before it finally went into commercial operation on August 7, 2011. Units 3 and 4 are located on the area of the Ling'ao II nuclear power plant.
