The Changjiang nuclear power plant about 5 km northeast of the village of Haiwei in Changjiang County , directly on the coast of the island province of Hainan in the south of the People's Republic of China , has consisted of two pressurized water reactors of the Chinese type CNP-600 since 2016 . It is operated by Hainaner Kernkraft GmbH (海南 核电 有限公司), a joint venture between Huaneng Kernkraft AG (中国 核能 电力 股份有限公司, 51%), Huaneng Kernkraftentwicklungs-GmbH (华 能 核电 开发 有限公司, 19%) and the Huaneng Power International AG (华能国际 电力 股份有限公司, 30%).

history

The Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant was built as a joint project between the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and Huaneng Power International . The permit to build the nuclear power plant was granted in July 2008 by the State Commission for Development and Reform of China. The first work on the site began in December 2008.

The final expansion of the nuclear power plant will consist of four pressurized water reactors , two of the Chinese type CNP-600 with an electrical output of 650 megawatts each and two of the HPR-1000 type, also known as " Hualong One ", with an output of 1170 megawatts . It will be built in two phases, with two blocks each to be completed.

Blocks 2-1 and 2-2 of the Qinshan nuclear power plant serve as a reference for the two blocks in the first phase . Construction of Unit 1 began on April 25, 2010, and the first criticality was reached on October 12, 2015 . Unit 2 became critical for the first time on June 9, 2016. The cost of building the first two blocks was slated to be 19 billion yuan , with more than 70% of the equipment being made in China. The total cost of building Unit 3 and Unit 4 was estimated at 39.45 billion yuan in 2019. At the time, it was assumed that Block 3 would go online in 2025, and Block 4 in 2026 Template: future / in 5 years.
