Kerstin Behnke
Kerstin Behnke (born September 29, 1969 in Hamburg ) is a German choir director and conductor .
Life
From 1991 to 1995 Kerstin Behnke studied school music at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater and from 1995 to 2001 conducting at the Berlin University of the Arts with Mathias Husmann . In 1997 she founded the Chamber Choir tonic , which she heads today. From 2002 to 2017 she directed the concert choir Berliner Cappella . In 2017 she took over the management of the LandesJugendChor Saar and the via-nova-chor in Munich . She has worked with professional choirs such as the RIAS Chamber Choir and Markell's Voices .
From 2013 to 2017 Kerstin Behnke taught choral conducting at the Lübeck University of Music . In 2017 she was appointed to a professorship at the Liszt School of Music Weimar . Guest performances led her a. a. to Russia ( Philharmonia Novosibirsk ), Poland ( Filharmonia Pomorska and Capella Bydgostiensis in Bydgoszcz ) and Panama ( Panama National Symphony Orchestra ). In 2009 she was the first woman to conduct the largest performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony with 5000 singers and the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra in Tokyo .
Behnke confronts well-known works with unusual discoveries from all eras - especially forgotten compositions by women. The Berliner Tagesspiegel judges her choir work that “the skillful conductor Kerstin Behnke succeeds in motivating the members so that they appear like a conspiratorial community with exceptional works.” The performance room is an integral part of the concept in her concerts.
