The State Youth Choir Saar (LJC Saar) is the State Youth Choir of Saarland . The youth choir, set up as a project choir, aims to promote talented young people and young adults. The choir is sponsored by the Saarland Choir Association .

history

The choir was founded in 2008 by the Saarland Choir Association to enable talented singers between the ages of 15 and 27 from Saarland to get to know challenging choral literature on a project-by-project basis. From 2014 to 2017 the choir worked with various conductors.

In 2015 the LandesJugendChor Saar performed Joseph Haydn's creation together with the cross-border Robert Schuman Choir under the direction of Martin Folz. The choir also took part in the Days of Early Music in Saarland (TAMiS) with their concert program "Halt!" under the motto LandesJugendChor meets Barock under the direction of Pierre Cao together with the TAMIS orchestra.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the referendum of the Saarland on October 23, 1955, the LandesJugendChor also participated in the 2015 ceremony together with the Landes-Jugend-Symphonie-Orchester Saar .

In 2016 the LandesJugendChor took part in the transnational event of the "Voix du Monde" in Nancy. The artistic directors of this project were Maud Hamon-Loisance and Mathias Staut. The four-day concert tour to Nancy ended with the closing event of the 18th Voix du Monde "Chants d'honneur" in front of 8,000-10,000 spectators.

In the winter of 2016, the LandesJugendChor developed a Christmas program together with Robert Göstl. The largest part of this program was Hugo Distler's Christmas story . The choir also took part in the performance of "La zarzuela vive" under the direction of Karel Mark Chichon, together with parts of the Symphonic Choir of the Greater Saar Region.

The choir has been under the artistic direction of Kerstin Behnke since 2017 . Together with Kerstin Behnke the choir took part in the festival "upgrade 2017" in Donaueschingen, a project of the Netzwerk Neue Musik Baden-Württemberg eV, the Gesellschaft der Musikfreund Donaueschingen eV and the Kulturstiftung des Bundes. The repertoire for this festival focused on new music in the form of works by Nikolaus Brass and Michael Edward Edgerton .

In addition, the LandesJugendChor performed its concert series "Laut" in 2017 with a mixed acapella program and an interactive program booklet.

Working method

The choir has been led by the couple Alexander Lauer and Stefanie Fels-Lauer since it was founded. The latter was responsible for the individual voice training offered. At the end of 2014 both resigned from the choir. In 2017 the choir found a permanent artistic director in Kerstin Behnke.

Michael Marz and Angela Lösch have been responsible for both voice training and organizational management since 2014. There are an average of two work phases per year.

The choral literature sung is both sacred and secular in nature.
