The via-nova-chor is a mixed choir in Munich . It was founded in 1972 by Kurt Suttner , who led the choir until 2008. Florian Helgath was artistic director until 2016 , and Kerstin Behnke was elected his successor in April 2017 . The choir consists of around 45 amateur and professional musicians and is a member of the Bavarian Singers Association and the International Federation for Choral Music .

It offers composers a forum for the performance of new choral works, which is the number of over 70 world premieres of works by Günter Bialas , Karl Amadeus Hartmann , Peter Michael Hamel , Moritz Eggert , Peter Wittrich , Robert Maximilian Helmschrott , Max Beckschäfer , Wilfried Hiller and Wolfram Buchenberg proves.

Travels took the choir to Taipei for the Taipei International Choral Festival 2000 , Jeonju for the Sori Festival 2002 , Graz for the Psalm 2003 music festival, Oslo for the 90th birthday concert of Knut Nystedt in 2005, Cuneo for the Incontri Corali Festival 2006 . In 2002, 2012 and 2018 the choir was a guest at Musica Sacra International in Marktoberdorf , and in 2015 it opened the 14th International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf.

The via-nova-chor Munich won first prizes at international choir competitions in The Hague (1977), Cork (1985/87), Budapest (1991) and Tolosa (2009). In spring 2011 he was a finalist at the Grand Prix of the international choir competition in Maribor, Slovenia. Nationally, the via-nova-chor Munich received first prizes at the Bavarian Choir Competition in 2009 and 2017 and at the German Choir Competition in 2010 as well as the special prize for contemporary choral music at the German Choir Competition in 1994 and 2010. At the German Choir Competition in 2018 the choir again won a first prize.

The collaboration with Eric Ericson gave the choir fundamental insights into the interpretation of contemporary choral works. Gary Graden (2004), Manfred Schreier (2006), Peter Dijkstra (2009) and Max Frey (2010) were guest conductors . Occasionally the choir also works with orchestras such as the Münchner Rundfunkorchester .

In addition to regular radio recordings, there are CD recordings of the choir, including the album "VIA NOVA CHOR - Contemporary Choral Music" released by Spektral Records in 2012, and most recently the CD "BUJI-JA-BIJ-JU. World premieres 2009-2016", which was released in February 2018 was also published by Spektral.
