Kevin Francis (born June 13, 1982 in Bend , Oregon ) is a former American ski racer whose strengths were primarily in the fast downhill and super-G disciplines . Francis had his greatest successes in the Nor-Am Cup : He won the Super-G class once and was third in the overall standings twice. In 2008 he won the US Super G championships.

Career

Francis contested his first FIS race in December 1997. After several top ten positions, the first start in the Nor-Am Cup followed in February 1999 . Two weeks later he won his first FIS race. In 2002 he was accepted into the roster of the US ski team. At the Junior World Championships in Tarvisio , he finished 17th in the downhill and 36th in the Super-G. In the 2002/03 season , Francis achieved his first podium places in the Nor-Am Cup. He came third in two downhill runs and a giant slalom. With a further six placements among the top ten, he achieved third place in the overall classification and second in the downhill classification. At the end of winter he was runner-up in the US in the downhill.

At the beginning of the next winter, Francis drove his first three World Cup races . His best result was only 48th place in the downhill from Lake Louise , which is why he then started again exclusively in the Nor-Am Cup. Here he celebrated his first victory in the Super-G in Big Mountain on February 28, 2004 and thus came third in the Super-G ranking. On March 19, 2004, he fell in the descent of the US championships in Alyeska and suffered ligament injuries in his knee, the consequences of which affected him the next winter. In the 2004/05 season, for example, he was only three times in the top ten in a race in the Nor-Am Cup. At the beginning of the next winter, Francis drove another World Cup race. In the downhill from Beaver Creek he finished 42nd. In the Nor-Am Cup he achieved two podiums and several top ten results in the 2005/06 season , making him third in the downhill classification and seventh in the overall and super G-rating was.

At the beginning of the 2006/07 season, Francis took part in the North American World Cup. He suffered a broken ankle on December 2, 2006 in the giant slalom at Beaver Creek , which is why he had to end the season early. In the 2007/08 season , Francis was again very successful in the Nor-Am Cup. He won two Super-Gs in Panorama and on Whiteface Mountain and came third twice, which gave him the Super-G classification by a large margin. In the overall ranking he reached third place. On March 25, 2008, he became American Super-G champion in Sugarloaf . In his only two World Cup races that winter, however, he never crossed the finish line.

In the 2008/09 season, Francis took part in a total of eight World Cup races, but he never made it into the points. His best result was the 33rd place in the downhill run on the Streif in Kitzbühel on January 24th, 2009. In April 2009, Francis announced his retirement from top-class sport.
